I created this poster and a logo concept for the University of Nevada, Reno Kids University program. This playful cut-paper style poster was influenced by modernist artists and designers such as Henri Matisse, Paul Rand, Saul Bass, Helen Borten, Tom Eckersley, and Herbert Leupin. These Modernists created works that were whimsical and playful, yet clever and original. They experimented with mediums and forms, such as cut-paper, collage, block-printing, photomontage, and the like.
My poster was created with cut-paper, ink, and digital typography. I first sketched what I wanted to make in Procreate, then cut the shapes out of colored paper and pasted them onto Bristol paper. I used India ink to draw on the faces and hands of the characters. I then scanned the final piece and created a Photoshop document to adjust the colors. I finished by creating an InDesign document to add the typography around the scanned image.
My intention for this poster was to combine key elements of modernist design and apply them to a contemporary poster. It included experimenting with new mediums, styles, and materials that felt close to the modernist graphic design. Personally, I find this particular era to be inspiring and heavily influential to my graphic design and illustration work.
